The Gods of Pelenhar

Book 1; In the beginning….
In the days before time, before the stars, before the night, before the sun, before the day, before the world, before life, before death, all was void. Naught existed save for Daerikas the unnamed, Daerikas Dragonicas, the Great Dragon, he who existed before there was naught. Alone he dreamt in the void.
Alone in the void, Daerikas knew naught that was not himself. He was his own boon companion, his own confident, his only knowledge. In the silence of the void he created sound, which gave birth to words. He spoke these words into the void and took joy in the sound of his own voice. His joy in his voice gave birth to laughter and that pleased him as well. His pleasure in his laughter gave birth to song and that too pleased him.
His voice was the flame that illuminated the darkness of the void. In the fiery light of his words, he preceived the gemed continence of himself. In the glow of his song he gave birth to his own shadow though he knew not what it was.
His voice echoed in the void and so he came to speak to himself. In speaking to himself, he learned of the existence of his shadow. Being the only thing that was not of himself he came to address it with his words. His voice echoed in the void and Daerikas came to speak to it as the Other, as he who was not Daerikas.
His shadow became his brother and although Daerikas spoke for both of them, they spoke of many things. Silently, his shadow listened.
As time passed, their conversations often turned to debate and Daerikas and his shadow grew apart.
In the midst of these debates, Daerikas’s shadow spoke for the first time in its own voice, whispering cruel, hurtful, hateful things. These words enraged Daerikas as he had never felt anger before. He turned upon his shadow and lashed out. As is the nature of shadows, it mirrored Daerikas actions, striking him in turn.
Eight times did Daerikas smite his shadow and was wounded in turn. Blow by blow he tore his shadow asunder and in turn was rendered in equal measure. By the shadow of his own blows Daerikas was undone and his death echoed into the void.
Daerikas was no more.
From his flesh was born the world, the mountains and the valleys, skies and the ocean.
From his Dream were born the realms of Annwyn, the Seelie and the Unseelie.
From his pain was born the planes below, the wastes of fire and ice.
From his laughter was born the realms of Heaven where the gods hold sway.
From his words was born the Aether Realms where will is the way.
From his blood was born the Elemental Paths, four of the body and four of the mind.
From his shadow was born the Darkening Void wherein dwell those that cannot and should not be.
From his heart was born the Eight Great Dragons, from the first to the last.
From his death was the world born,
From his death was the beginning of all
From his death did the end begin.
The Book of Annwyn
Born of the joy of Daerikas was Annwyn, the fair, the pleasant, the eternal.
Born of the Laughter of Daerikas was the Sidhe, new and unsullied.
The Sidhe were many and diverse and they dwelled in innocence in Annwyn.
In their innocence they wandered Annwyn and learn it’s secrets.
In their Innocence they learned of the Aether Realms.
In their Innocence they learned of the Elemental Paths, the four of the body and the four of the mind.
In their Innocence they learn of Arda, born the flesh of Daerikas.
_In their Innocence they learned of the Darkening Void.
In their purity they held it to be an anathema and sealed it away.
But those that cannot and should not be learned of the Sidhe.
In their malevolence, those that cannot and should not be called out to the Sidhe.
In their purity, the Sidhe refused to hear.
But in the Darkening Void, the voices of those that cannot and should not be echoed.
Those echoes whispered at the edge of the world.
Those echoes haunted the dreams of Annwyn and coalesced in it’s hidden places.
Formless those echoes waited
Formless those echoes waited in shadows and corrupted them.
As with all things, the Sidhe learned their limits.
As with all things, there were those among the Sidhe who chaffed at their limits.
As with all things, there were those amongst the Sidhe who sought to advance themselves by seeking for what was not theirs.
As with all things, there were those amongst the Sidhe who sought in those fell places where none should search.
As with all things, there were those that were touch by the shadow and heard the echoes of the calls of those that cannot and should not be.
There were those who heeded to the calls of those that cannot and should not be
There were those who turned from the light and embraced the shadow.
There were those who arose amongst the Sidhe to greater wisdom and Power
There were those who sought dominion over their fellows.
Thus began the War of the Unspoken Whispers
Fire burned the skies and the Shadows laughed.
Blood stained the seas and the Shadows laughed.
Magic tore the realm asunder and the Shadows laughed.
Monsters were born and the Shadows laughed.
Terror stalked Annwyn and the Shadows laughed.
The Sidhe knew fear and the Shadows laughed.
The Sidhe knew hatred and the Shadows laughed.
The Sidhe knew war and the Shadows laughed.
Those of the Sidhe that rejected the Shadows some fled to the lands of Arda and the Shadows rejoiced.
Those of the Sidhe that rejected the Shadows stood defiant and the Shadows laughed.
They raised new born battle standards and the Shadows laughed.
They crafted mighty swords dedicated to the light and the Shadows paused.
They raised their voices united and the Shadows trembled.
They blooded their blades and the Shadows wept.
They threw back the armies of darkness and the Shadows trembled.
They turned their eyes to the Whispering Shadows and the Shadows knew fear.
They brought light into the darkened corners of Annwyn and the shadows fled.
The Book of the Lords of Light.
In the course of time, the Sidhe overcame the servants of the shadows.
Of the Sidhe who fought the Shadows, eight races came to the fore.
Of these Eight Races, many great leaders came to great power.
In their Wisdom, these eight races formed a council.
In their Wisdom, each race choose the best of their race to represent them.
In their Wisdom, the representative were given the greater portion of the powers of their race.
In their Wisdom the council removed themselves from governing of the people of Annwyn and became the protectors of their people.
The protectors took unto themselves the title of Lords of Light.
The Lords of light gathered unto themselves those who would aid and serve them.
To these followers they gave a portion of their power.
The Lords of Light looked over the Realms of Annwyn and Arda.
The Lords of Light saw the rise of the Seelie and the Unseelie courts and they wept.
The Lords of Light turned their eyes towards the Darkening Void.
The Lords of Light made council to defy the shadows.
The Lords of Light dedicated themselves and the Shadows screamed in their anger.
The Books of the Eight Courts
In the War of the Unspoken Whispers, war touched the Sidhe.
In the War of the Unspoken Whispers the silent echoes of the Shadows haunted the Sidhe.
In the War of the Unspoken Whispers the innocence of the Sidhe was lost.
The soul of the Sidhe was tainted.
The heart of the Sidhe grew colder.
The Dreams of the Sidhe grew appart.
Turning with the seasons the Sidhe changed.
Turning with the Sidhe the seasons changed.
With Frost was born the Illinsidhe.
With autumn came the Unseelie Court.
With the first blossoms was born the Ullinsidhe.
With the Spring the Seelie Court was reborn.
And the Shadows reveled in their joy.
The Book of Arda
Those who fled to Arda turned their eyes from Annwyn.
They embraced their new home with their hearts.
They embraced their new lands with their body.
They embraced their new world with their souls.
They turned from the Seelie Court.
They turned from the Unseelie Court.
They turned and were Sidhe no more.
They became the Fey in name and indeed.
The Book of the Eight. (The Coming of Man)
In Arda came the time of Thunder and Fire
of Storm and Conflict
of Change and Beginnings.
From beyond the Darkening Void they came
Fleeing an ancient foe
A foe of Flame and Shadow
They arrived bloodied but undeterred
Defiant in their desperation
With unknown wisdom and hands of iron
-The Lords of Light gave them shelter_
-Closed the gates that followed them._

9. Spiridin The Great Enemy, Lord of the Frozen Shadows
There are three major philosophical divides in regards to the Gods in Pelenhar.
- Fundamentalism . The fundamentalist cleave to the eight gods of their race/culture, holding to their traditional names and practices. While this these local gods are a very powerful, their powers are limited to those area where there worshipers dwell. Beyond those boarders their power are diminished. Tradionalist tend to view Unificationist as Heretics
- Unificationism. Based on the observation that all pantheons have eight major deities, the unificationist believes that their are but Eight Gods and they vary their local presentation to address the diverse cultures and peoples. They hold that a God can be worshiped by one name by one group of people and another with another. While they might refer to the Gods by a local name, they are more likely to use the honorific which best fits the roll they play (See the Eight below). a unificationist priest may not be as powerful as traditionalist but his powers are are constant regardless of location.
- Deist. If the diverse gods of the traditionalist are but local manifestations of the 8 unificationist deities, could it be possible that the eight are but a manifestation of aspects of a single deity? This is the primary question of the Deist Heresy. Deism is a relatively new belief and often is viewed as Heresy by Traditionalist and Unificationist alike. Deist clerics are very rare and their powers and abilities tend to be unique

Toméagus Eaglash’rth (The Sh’rth)
In the days before days, in the time before time they held dominion. Before the darkness of Night, before the brilliance of Day, they trod the undreamed paths and held uncontested mastery of that that was before creation. Before the first cycle, before the first age they lay the seeds of their power and turned their eyes with disdain at the birth of those insignificant creatures that were to be the Gods.
They whispered their voiceless song into the void to haunt Daerikas in his solitude and from their uncreated words did their shadows come to exist before light was born.
Knowledge Religion 25, the Sh’rth were horrific beings of tremendous power, who some claim existed before the Gods.
Knowledge Religion 30, the nine Sh’rth all have ties with a specific element and in the earliest days of creation, the Sage created the 8 words of unimagine creation and bound the Sh’rth by those words.

Despite being considered a heresy, the Sh,arth did exist. Every faith has some apocryphal text that speaks of the Gods struggling against nameless horrors that have existed since first days of creation. Most modern faiths hold that these were the Shadows but those who embrace the blasphemous practices of the Sh’rth claim the Shadows are but the forgotten remnants of footfalls of the Sh’rth
